War in Bosnia and Herzegovina resulted in death of more than 100.000 people in period of just under four years. While every part of the country was affected by war, three places in the Eastern Bosnia had special status. The U.N. had declared these enclaves “safe havens” in 1993, to be disarmed and protected by international peacekeeping forces. One of them was Srebrenica enclave.
On July 11, 1995, however, Bosnian Serb forces (Armija Republike Srpske) advanced on Srebrenica, overwhelming a battalion of Dutch peacekeeping forces stationed there. In organized operation Bosniak (muslim) women and men were separated. Women were sent to Bosnian Army-held territory while more than 8000 Bosniak men and boys were brutally killed and buried at different locations in Eastern Bosnia.
The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague has restated its judgement that the mass killings in Srebrenica in 1995 constituted a genocide.
To fully understand how it was possible to have one of the worst crimes committed on European soil, in Srebrenica Genocide Study Tour you will learn about:

Tour starts in front of Info Bosnia Tourist Information Center located at main pedestrian street close to “Sarajevo Meeting of Cultures” line. After short introduction we will provide guests bottles of water and continue to pick-up other guests. Once all guests are in the transportation tour can start.
Drive towards our first stop takes approximately 2 hours. A network of well-maintained roads that weave through a landscape of beautiful Bosnian canyons, mountains and historic towns is breathtaking. While driving, guide will start with the elaborate explanation of different period of the country, religion of the people and the role of WWI and WWII. Having these elements covered will significantly help understanding the war in Yugoslavia and Srebrenica Genocide.
Srebrenica may be the most famous because of sheer number of people killed, but it was not the only city in Eastern Bosnia affected by killing and ethic cleansing. During the drive the guide will explain and mention the places linked with Srebrenica Genocide.
Kravica is our first stop. A place where 1200 Bosniak, taken from Srebrenica were killed. Now at the heart of the small town is a large memorial with interesting numbers. False and alternate history made to minimize victims in Srebrenica.
Established by the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Srebrenica Memorial Center was officially opened in September 2003. The Morial Center consists of two sections. The first being a burial ground where, to this day, the remains of more than 6,000 victims of genocide have been buried. The second component of the Memorial Center is housed in the former Battery Factory, which served as the headquarters of the Dutch UN battalion prior to the July 1995 genocide and events.
What makes visit to Srebrenica Memorial Center unique is meeting actual survivors of genocide. Official local guide, a genocide survivor will hold a history class and share personal stories.
At the Srebrenica Memorial Center you will:
After more than two decades, Srebrenica still remains a capital of pain in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Genocide was not only a horrible collective experience for Bosniaks, but also a Stunde Null of Serbian history. Today inhabited by people connected by one of the worst crimes in modern history, trying to cope with every day life.
Srebrenica is only 15 minutes drive from the Memorial Center. A small town with rich history is far away from industrial leader it once was. In Srebrenica we will have opportunity to have lunch and explore town.
Srebrenica you will:
Lake Perucac is one of the biggest artificial lakes in Bosnia extending through the canyon of the Drina, all the way to Visegrad. A breathtaking lake with huge slopes of Tara mountain, separates Bosnia and Serbia. Beautiful as is it is, unfortunately hides many Bosniak bodies killed in Visegrad and thrown in Drina river.
In the village close to the lake lives Grandma Safa. Always happy to welcome our guests in her home and make traditional Bosnian coffee or even a lunch. Safa does not speak English but our guide is more than happy to translate. This fact makes the whole experience even more interesting as she shares her personal stories from the period of the war. Truly unique experience!
At Perucac lake you will:
Under the slopes of Trebevic Mountain lies 5 centuries old Jewish Cemetery. Established by Sephardic Jews during Ottoman period contains more than 3850 tombstones. Unfortunately it was used as artillery and sniper position of Republic of Srpska Army during the last war.
At Jewish Cemetery you will:
Our final stop is Yellow bastion built as cannon fortress during Ottoman period as part of city defense wall. Bastion is located just above the Soldiers Cemetery and the resting place of fist Bosnian president. Today it is a perfect view point to the Old Town and best place to see a sunset over Sarajevo valley.
At Yellow Fortress you will:
